After breaking the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Khalistani supporters also wrote controversial slogans there.

Just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Italy, Khalistan supporters vandalised Mahatma Gandhi's statue there. They also wrote the name of the deceased Hardeep Singh Nijjar below the statue. Officials said that after getting information about the matter, they have cleaned the statue.

Foreign Ministry complained to the officials
The Ministry of External Affairs has also commented on this incident. Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said that a complaint has been made to the Italian government officials regarding this matter. Appropriate action is being taken.

Gandhi's statue was to be unveiled
According to media reports, Mahatma Gandhi's statue was to be inaugurated during PM Modi's visit. In such a situation, tampering with the statue is being considered a major security lapse. Italy has started action to identify the culprits of this incident. The police is taking the incident of damaging the statue very seriously.

The G7 summit is to be held in Italy from 13 to 15 June. PM Modi will leave tomorrow on 13 June to attend the G7 meeting. The Foreign Secretary said that PM Modi is going there on the invitation of Italy's PM Giorgia Meloni.

Apart from US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese PM Fumio Kishida and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, many other big leaders will be present at the G7 summit. Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said that during this visit, PM Modi will discuss many important issues related to India and the Global South with other world leaders present at the G7 summit.

This is the 11th time that India will be a part of the G7 summit. PM Modi will participate in this summit for the fifth time. During his visit, PM Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with many leaders.

Kwatra said, “India is continuously working to try and solve many global challenges, including peace, security, development and environmental protection. India's regular participation in the G7 Summit is clearly a result of these efforts.”
