The opposition Labour Party in Britain has said that if it comes to power, it will investigate the role of the British government in Operation Blue Star.

General elections will be held in Britain on 4 July. Many surveys have predicted that this time the Labour Party can form the government in Britain. Meanwhile, the Labour Party has announced that if they win this election, then after forming the government, they will investigate the role of the British government in Operation Blue Star that took place in India in 1984.

Labour Party leader Angela Raynor told the British media that 40 years have passed since Operation Bluestar. Our party stands with the Sikh community. We will try our best to find out the truth as per their demand if the Labour Party forms the government.

Labour candidate from Coventry South, Zara Sultana, claimed that the role of then British PM Margaret Thatcher in the Operation Blue Star incident has been hidden from all of us.

British Air Service helped in Operation Bluestar
This is not the first time that the Labour Party leaders have demanded an investigation into the role of the Thatcher government in Operation Blue Star. They have been demanding this for the last 10 years. In fact, in 2014, on the completion of 30 years of Operation Blue Star, a report was released. In this report, it was claimed that the British Special Air Service had helped the Indian Army in the action on the Golden Temple of Amritsar.

The report claimed that the then British Air Special Service Commander had advised the Indira Gandhi government to kill the Khalistanis hiding in the Golden Temple. This advice was given 3 months before the launch of Operation Bluestar in June 1984. This report was prepared by an organization in England called 'Sikh Federation UK'. It was told in the reports that the information related to this was kept secret at that time.

All the files were put in the classified list. However, later some of these files were leaked. After this, David Cameron's government ordered an investigation in 2014. In 2014, Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague told the House of Commons that the role of the British government in Operation Blue Star was very 'limited'. The role of the British government in this was limited to just giving 'advice'.

It is claimed that the government of Britain's first woman PM Margaret Thatcher had helped India in Operation Bluestar.

what was operation bluestar
Operation Blue Star was launched in 1984 on the orders of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to capture pro-Khalistan Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. He was hiding in the Golden Temple in Amritsar. To capture him, the army entered the Golden Temple and Akal Takht Sahib on 6 June 1984 and killed Jarnail Singh.

According to the Indian government, a total of 554 people were killed in Operation Blue Star. Many pro-Khalistan people were also among them. However, Sikh organizations claim that several thousand people were killed in this operation. A few days after Operation Blue Star, the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards.
