Gantz is seen as Netanyahu's main political opponent in Israel.

Israel's Netanyahu government has suffered a major setback on Sunday. Benny Gantz, the key member of the 3-member war cabinet, has resigned. According to Al Jazeera's report, the reason for Gantz's resignation is PM Netanyahu's attitude towards the hostage deal in the Gaza war.

Gantz's decision comes at a time when the war between Israel and Hamas has been going on for 8 months, and the situation in West Asia remains delicate.

Announcing his decision on a TV channel, Gantz said – Because of Netanyahu we are not able to eliminate Hamas. Therefore, we are leaving the emergency government with a heavy heart, but with confidence.

On the other hand, Netanyahu has asked Gantz to withdraw the decision. He said that this is not the time to retreat from the fight but to join it.

Told Netanyahu to hold elections for a reliable government
Gantz appealed to Netanyahu – Elections should be held on a mutually acceptable date, so that a government is formed that can win the trust of the people and face the challenges. Gantz said that protests are important, but they need to be conducted legally. They should not promote hatred. We are not enemies of each other. Our enemies are outside our borders.

Gantz also appealed to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant to do what is right.

Gantz joined the Netanyahu government immediately after the attack on Hamas
In Israel, former military chief Gantz is seen as Netanyahu's main political opponent. Before joining the War Cabinet, he was a prominent member of the opposition. He joined Netanyahu's government soon after the Hamas attack on October 7. His presence in the Netanyahu government also boosted Israel's credibility internationally. Gantz also has a good working relationship with US officials.

However, this move by Gantz does not pose any threat to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the moment. Because he still controls the majority coalition in the Israeli Parliament Knesset. Even after Gantz's departure, Netanyahu will still have a majority of 64 seats in the 120-seat Knesset.

37 thousand Palestinians died in the war
The war between Israel and Hamas has been going on for the last 8 months. So far 37 thousand Palestinians have died in this. About 80% of the people of Gaza became homeless.
