Liverpool vs Bournemouth Clash: Liverpool success with 3-1 score

Liverpool vs Bournemouth: Liverpool FC beat AFC Bournemouth 3-1 in their home opener at Anfield on Saturday, August 19, 2023. The Reds came from behind after Antoine Semenyo gave the visitors a shock lead in the 12th minute with a low shot past Alisson Becker.

Liverpool equalized in the 28th minute when Mohamed Salah scored his first goal of the season with a curling effort from the edge of the box.

Diogo Jota put the hosts ahead in the 43rd minute with a header from a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross. Luis Diaz sealed the win in the 68th minute with a powerful strike from outside the area that left Mark Travers helpless.

Liverpool dominated the possession and had more shots on goal than Bournemouth, who struggled to cope with the intensity and creativity of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Cherries had a goal disallowed for offside in the first half and also hit the post through Ryan Christie in the second half, but they rarely threatened to spoil Liverpool’s party. The Reds moved up to fourth place in the Premier League table with four points from two games, while Bournemouth remained in the bottom three with one point.

The game was also notable for the debut of Wataru Endo, who joined Liverpool from Stuttgart for £15 million earlier this week. The Japanese midfielder came on as a substitute for Cody Gakpo in the 62nd minute and impressed with his energy, passing and tackling.
